Primary Emotions

Primary emotions

There is controversy with the number of primary emotions we come into this world with. There are those who talk about eight, six, five...

I have chosen these six because it is the most accepted number in the scientific community.

Emotions are complex, they involve changes at a physical, psychological and behavioral level.

We are born with a few emotions but as we grow and relate to them they increase in number and complexity. Primary emotions are programs installed in our minds since we are born. That is, they are in our genetic chain. From the moment we are born we are able to express how we feel, at a very basic level of course. As we grow, our gestures, especially our face, show signs of joy, sadness, disgust, fear or surprise.

Emotions move us to action, thanks to them we act in one way or another. Their most primary function is survival, they protect us from certain dangers (fear), they help us not eat what is in poor condition, or repels us (disgust). Surprise alerts us, joy favors relationships with others, sadness however isolates us to help us recover from certain events. Anger drives us to show that we do not agree or do not like some things, we reveal ourselves and make it evident.

Having all these tools to be able to communicate with others is very lucky.

We don't need to speak to be understood because body language, especially gestural, of emotions is universal.

It is important to know them to understand how we live them and above all how we feel them.

Emotional Intelligence, which I will talk about in subsequent Posts, is about understanding and appropriate management to adopt responses that facilitate our relationships with others and with ourselves.

I have created a notebook and some cards with images of primary emotions with the intention of reaching adults and children more easily.

In the notebook you will find a presentation of each emotion in an easy and fun way. Behind you will find practical and simple exercises to learn to manage them better and experience them. Also 25 blank pages for you to develop the exercises.

The cards are designed to work with younger children. The image is easily recognizable by them, the idea is that they internalize the emotion and can recognize it in themselves and in others through games of mimicry, interpretation and experimentation. Accompanying the cards you will see a brief presentation and exercises to be able to work on each emotion with the children.

If you are interested in knowing more details, send me an email or WhatsApp and I will contact you shortly.

I hope you like it and it helps you understand this fascinating world of emotions.
